vietnam-travel-khanhhoa-img01A group of 100 black-shanked douce langurs, one of the world’s most endangered primate species, has been found in Hon Heo peninsula, Ninh Hoa district, central Khanh Hoa province.

According to experts from Germany’s Frankfurt Animal Association, Hon Heo peninsula’s environment was damaged through illegal logging and burning, endangering the living conditions of wild animals, including the black langurs, scientifically named Pygathrix nigripes.

The province’s authorities have now banned logging in the areas while punishing poachers and violators of the law on forestry.

Black-shanked douce langurs populations are well down in Vietnam, most are found in the Central Highlands Kon Tum province and central Ninh Thuan province with communities of between 50-60 animals a piece.
